Junah is a 6 year old bay Thoroughbred gelding standing 17 hands. His
Jockey Club name is Extinguisher. Junah was rescued from the kill pen
at the Enumclaw Auction in December 2008 with two of the worst looking
hooves we have ever seen.
Severely cracked and splayed out, his feet were crumbling, leaving him no
base of support. Although he was a young and otherwise healthy horse,
the damage was so extreme that we originally feared he was too far gone
to save. Nevertheless, we did not want to see this elegant young horse
go to slaughter, so we decided to take him on. Our farrier, Sandy Craig,
worked miracles on Junah. Although unsure of new people, he let her
work on him to patch the cracks, and he kept his shoes on without
problems. New growth came in healthy and we felt confident he was
back on track to a happy life and a competitive career.
He was briefly at the track for training as a two year old.
He was laid to rest on June 18, 2009
